Are Electric Cars Really Green?
At $136,991, Will You Overpay For This 520-Mile Rivian R1T Launch Edition?
Interesting conversations pop up in some of the most unlikely place on the interwebs. This came from a discussion about one of these launch edition Rivian R1Ts being offered for $139k by a Tucson Porsche dealership in the Facebook Marketplace.
Donnie WadleyHeres an Idea...... set the bar you might sell more vehicles and quit price gouging because the market says its ok too. 139k for an 80k truck? 60k above the sticker because a market says so?
Dylan Young Author Donnie Wadley I encourage you to try to find a Rivian R1T Adventure package that’s priced under $120K that you can pick up tomorrow and my ad also says it’s open to offers. There are 13 on the market in the country at this time. Why would we sell for sticker price when it’s not a NEW vehicle but a USED and used Rivians are selling for $120K+? So that you can turn around and profit it from it? You don’t like it? Don’t buy it
I posted this link here with the tag #predatorcapitalism. People use #pricegouging a lot in that forum.
The all-electric Rivian R1T is one of the electric cars of the moment and with customer deliveries now underway, is starting to prove itself against its combustion-powered rivals. Curiously, one example has recently appeared for sale through IAAI but does not have any obvious damage.
In another comment, the author stated that there are over 83, 000 orders for the R1T that will likely take several years to fill, if the company lasts that long.
Rivian Stock Warning: Could the EV Startup Really Go Bankrupt?
This is where it gets to the meat of the issue. The compared costs in dollars and cents, as well as the environmental and cultural costs.
Mark Carey
And it’ll only take 57 yrs to balance out not paying gas, but the batteries will only last you 10-15 then cost another $10-20k to replace.
Where do I sign up???
Linda Clark - BergMark Carey RIGHT!! not mention how much earth they have to dig up to get the stuff to make those batteries. And what happens to them when they die where do they go? Yeah I can see how these are really good for the environment NOT
Tommie Jayne Wasserberg Linda Clark - Berg #FJB Hemp is the answer to accelerating climate change due to combustion energy capture technology and pit mining. Hemp batteries will resolve the issues surrounding Lithium extraction. We need to leave the oil in the soil and pump water with fresh biomass to the refineries. There is nothing made from fossilized plants that can't be made from fresh ones.
Linda Clark - Berg Tommie Jayne Wasserberg Yeah but don’t the manufacturer usually go with the cheapest route? I’ll have to read that article a little later because I’ve never heard of that that would be wonderful but still I don’t see how electric it’s going to cost less than gas
Tommie Jayne Wasserberg Linda Clark - Berg the environmental cost of lithium batteries is real steep. exactly how it compares to petroleum i don't know, but not only is it harming the environment, it's being mined from culturally sensitive real estate. that's what's going on in Nevada. They're threatening burial grounds.
Linda Clark - BergYeah they’re ruining the earth with taking up the lithium so I don’t understand how they think that can be so called green!
Tommie Jayne WasserbergLinda Clark - Berg not just the lithium, but cobalt and gallium too and there is a lot of civil conflict surrounding the mining of all the metals, especially in central Africa. The situation in Ukraine is all about the natural resources. The European and Asian Ukrainians have been duking it out periodically since at least the 9th century that I can document.
Linda Clark - Bergyep we are destroying the earth we live on for future generations and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon.
Tommie Jayne WasserbergLinda Clark - Berg We have this decade to make major course corrections or the planet's gravity and motion will trash the infrastructure by the end of the century. We have completely upset the balance of nature and it is indigenous biodiversity that keeps the climate changing slowly.
It was predicted well over 50 years ago that weather and tectonic events would increase in frequency and intensity until the carbon cycle was brought back to homeostasis. It is the height of human hubris for men like Bill Gates to think there is a technological solution for a problem that was caused by technology.
We must stop using petroleum completely. We're sucking the lubrication for the plates out of the ground and spraying all the gases back into the atmosphere the planet took billions of years to scrub out of it. If we continue on the course we're traveling, by the end of the century, half the land we use will be underwater, the other half scorched and there will be less than a billion people left alive.Linda Clark - Berg right they’ve known for 50 years and yet nobody did a damn thing. The world has become full of conspiracy theorist on the stupidest things I just read one with her is a group that doesn’t believe birds are real they think they are government drones. It just saddens me to see how much the world has changed! Unfortunately there are still so many people who don’t believe global warming is for real. yeah we could probably go on with this conversation forever there’s just so much wrong with the world today. But I’m actually on vacation and going to get going so you take care and hopefully more people will listen to you!
Tommie Jayne Wasserberg Linda Clark - Berg I'm about to share it on my page. Enjoy your vacation. Have you seen some of the crazy crap MTG is promoting? She's even blaming transgender people for a tampon shortage
.There was a revelation a few years ago that Exxon knew what they were doing and deliberately covered it all up. Their lobbyists were actively preventing the allocation of R&D funds for green technologies.
Nothing is going to change until we unplug the perpetual war machine. They're the biggest polluters, fighting on equipment powered by petroleum over the sources of petroleum. Dwight Eisenhower struggled with the MIC for his entire post war career, trying to get them to retool for peacetime projections of American military technology, for disaster recovery and the building of infrastructure in underdeveloped nations and previously uninhabitable environments. He warned us about them on his way out the door. Kennedy tried to carry the vision forward and got killed for his troubles. We let them get away with it and got never ending dirty bush wars instead.
